Things As They Are
A dialogue with Antiveduto Gramatica

Curated by Roberto Lacarbonara

From March 26 to May 29, 2026

In Things As They Are , Mathew McWilliams constructs a dialogue with Antiveduto Gramatica's Concerto a quattro figure (1608–1610), a Baroque painting in which music, gestures, and gazes define a complex spatial and narrative structure. Starting from this composition, the artist isolates its internal lines and visual tensions, transforming pictorial analysis into a process of decomposition and reconstruction of the image.

The collection brings together works in which lines, backgrounds, and printing processes intertwine, generating mirrored surfaces that echo each other. Each work explores the relationship between original and reproduction, between painting and image, offering a reflection on perception and reality: things as they are.
