The core of T-Yong Chung’s research focuses on the image as a contact zone between two convex surfaces: the eye and the world. In this space of intersection, vision is never a unilateral act, but a process of reciprocity in which subject and object touch and redefine each other.
In his sculptures, the artist intervenes on classical busts and figurative faces through operations of subtraction and amputation. The removals do not produce mere absences, but openings that make visible the point of adhesion between body and gaze, between presence and perception, activating a continuous tension between identity and alteration.
